Management of instability and osteolysis after total hip arthroplasty.

چکیده
William J. Hozack, MD: The radiographs demonstrate a dislocated total hip arthroplasty (THA) with extensive bone lysis on both the acetabular and femoral sides. Component fixation appears intact. Closed reduction is indicated in this case, as in virtually all cases of dislocation. A dislocated THA is painful for the patient and requires immediate attention. Furthermore, there are many instances of single dislocations related to an unusual patient position that, once reduced, may never occur again. In this patient, further treatment is required, so the closed reduction gives the surgeon time to more William J. Knee arthrodesis in failed total knee arthroplasty with severe osteolysis and ipsilateral long-stem total hip arthroplasty.
We report a case of knee fusion after a failed total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with severe osteolysis including the epicondyle and ipsilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) with long Wagner revision stem (Sulzer Orthopedics, Baar, Switzerland). The conventional devices for arthrodesis were unavailable in this case because of the long Wagner revision stem and poor bone stock. A connector was made b...
متن کاملHumeral-sided Radiographic Changes Following Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty
Background: We sought to characterize humeral-sided radiographic changes at a minimum of 2 years after reverseshoulder arthroplasty (RSA) to determine their association with specific implantation techniques. Methods: The immediate and most recent postoperative anteroposterior radiographs of 120 shoulders with primary RSAand a minimum of 2-years of radiographic follow-up were an...
متن کاملOperative diagnosis for revision total hip arthroplasty is associated with patient-reported outcomes (PROs)
BACKGROUND Little is known about the impact of the reason for revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) on the outcomes following revision THA. In this study, our objective was to assess the association of operative diagnosis with patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after revision THA. METHODS We used prospectively collected data from the Mayo Clinic Total Joint Registry that collects pre- and post-...
متن کاملTwo- to 9-year clinical results of alumina ceramic-on-ceramic THA.
From June 1997 to June 2003 we performed 194 total hip arthroplasties on 173 patients using alumina ceramic-on-ceramic bearings as part of a prospective United States Food and Drug Administration/Investigational Device Exemption study. The average patient age at surgery was 49.9 years. Minimum followup time was 2 years (mean 4.3 years, range 2-9 years). We evaluated survival rate, implant- and ...
متن کاملParticle Disease: A Current Review of the Biological Mechanisms in Periprosthetic Osteolysis After Hip Arthroplasty
BACKGROUND Inflammatory responses to wear debris cause osteolysis that leads to aseptic prosthesis loosening and hip arthroplasty failure. Although osteolysis is usually associated with aseptic loosening, it is rarely seen around stable implants. Aseptic implant loosening is a simple radiologic phenomenon, but a complex immunological process. Particulate debris produced by implants most commonl...
